Melanie Falcon joined the 69 News Team in October 2011. You can catch her reporting on 69 News at Sunrise during the week and anchoring on 69 News At Sunrise: Weekend Edition every Saturday morning from 7am-9am. What Melanie loves most about her job is being somewhere different and meeting new people every day. One day she might be covering a heated political campaign. The next, she could be singing karaoke with a fun group of seniors or trying her hand at skateboarding!

Before coming to 69 WFMZ-TV, Melanie was a Morning Anchor and Reporter at KNDU in the Tri-Cities, Washington for more than three years. She covered everything from the opening of a new county animal shelter to murder trials to the Hanford Nuclear Site.

Melanie grew up in North Carolina, then moved to Boston to attend Emerson College. There, she earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science. She anchored, produced, and did weather on multiple newscasts at Emerson, winning several Associated Press Awards and a College Emmy.

In 2012, Melanie underwent open heart surgery. Doctor's discovered she had a faulty aortic value that led to a serious infection of the heart tissue. She needed emergency surgery to replace the faulty value and repair the infected area. Melanie returned to work eight weeks after the surgery and continues to educate the community about heart health. "Listen to your body" she says. "See your doctor if you don't feel right. Persevere if you can't find the answer."

When not working, Melanie enjoys playing fetch with her two dogs (a Golden Retriever and Black Lab), running, trying new restaurants, and attempting to cook!
