6-vehicle crash puts brakes on rush hour traffic

CUMRU TWP., Pa. - A chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles, including a motorcycle, closed a stretch of busy highway for more than an hour Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. in the inner loop of the West Shore Bypass -- Route 422 West -- near the Interstate 176 interchange in Cumru Twp., Berks Co.

The vehicles involved were unable to stop for traffic in the area and caused the chain-reaction crash, police said.

One person -- the motorcyclist -- was taken to a hospital, but police said his injuries are not life-threatening.

The westbound lanes of the bypass reopened around 9:15 a.m., police said.
