WFMZ.com web reporter/web editor Randy Kraft has been a local journalist for nearly 40 years.
His current wfmz.com news beat covers major municipalities, including Allentown, Lehigh County and Lower Macungie Township.
He was a news reporter and feature writer for nearly 35 years at The Evening Chronicle and Morning Call in Allentown, 15 of them as the Call's full-time travel writer.
While most of Randy's travel writing focused on day trips and weekend getaways, he also was on more cruise ships than he can count and saw more of Alaska and the Yukon in one customized trip than most people ever get to see. His travel writing also took him to the Galapagos, Mexico City, Ecuador, many Caribbean islands and Disney World.
Randy also is former regional editor at the weekly Quakertown Free Press newspaper and he was the first local editor of Emmaus Patch, an on-line news site.
He was born and raised in south Allentown and is a 1969 graduate of Allen High School.
Randy earned a B.A. in journalism at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., where he was editor of the school newspaper for two years.
He enjoys vegetable gardening and watching movies. He is a big fan of westerns, especially those starring John Wayne. Randy has ridden hundreds of miles on horses, mostly on multi-day trail rides through north-central Pennsylvania's Tioga County -- where coyotes still howl at night.
He resides in Upper Milford Township with his wife Irene, a former writer and editor at The Morning Call, and their dog Ranger. The couple has two grown sons -- Charlie Allen, a veteran store manager at CVS, and Dr. David Allen, a cardiologist -- and two twin grandbabies.
