Journalism and medicine waged
a war for Linda Candelo’s heart. She grew up in a small village in
Colombia. At 17, got her first taste of journalism working briefly at
Univision 41 in New York. But when it came time for college, Linda
enrolled at the University Libre in Cali, Colombia where she studied
medicine for 3 years.
In 2000, Linda decided to change course and come to the United States
with her family to start a new life. Journalism renewed its siren call
and this time Linda elected to pursue it. She studied English at Union
College in New Jersey and then switched to Kean University where she
received her bachelor’s degree in Arts and Broadcast Journalism.
For most of 2005, Linda worked on the daily program Despierta America
(Univision) in New York. She also produced the variety program “Hoy
Contigo of Cablevision” in Union, NJ, and she hosted the New York Talent
Show of Bronxnet in the Bronx, New York.
Linda has written articles for “Beauty Magazine,” and is currently a
columnist for “Su Guia” newspaper, part of the North Jersey Media Group.
Although the planet may have lost a promising medical professional, we
at WFMZ-TV are glad that journalism won Linda’s heart.
