Ordering food in the Lehigh Valley just got a little easier. A new website, MenuGenie.com. is allowing customers to order food online from some local restaurants.
In this day and age of cell phones, computers, and tablets, who wants to pick up the phone anymore? That's what a new start-up company in the Lehigh Valley is asking. It's called Menu Genie.com.
"Kind of think of it like a search engine for restaurants," said Bill Lamb, Chief Executive Genie for Menu Genie Inc.
This search engine includes menus, the option to order takeout or delivery, and to pay for your food.
It's not a new concept. Many larger cities, like Chicago and Los Angeles, have similar websites. Lamb said, "We all do everything that everyone does in the large cities so there's no reason that technology should just be held up to the large cities."
MenuGenie.com is now working with more than 50 restaurants in the Lehigh Valley.
Dave Bachinski, owner of The Burger Shack in Whitehall, signed on with Menu Genie when the website had a soft launch in June.
"Online ordering was a concept that I wanted to add to the business when I first opened but due to the high cost of online ordering, it just wouldn't fit," said Bachinski.
Now you can order his burgers online, and he says some new customers have even found him through the site.
Lamb says the site is free to customers. He explained there's no fee to join, no monthly fees, and everything costs the same through the site as it does if you ordered for takeout or delivery over the phone.
Restaurants, however, pay, but Menu Genie says only if a customer orders through the site.
Menu Genie's goal is to have 150 to 200 Lehigh Valley restaurants on the site within the next year.
