Look at past, present, future of Jaindl operations

Wednesday David Jaindl spoke to Lehigh Valley business leaders about what's next for the company

The Jaindl Turkey Farms owner and president says the Lehigh Valley business landmark is looking for new opportunities.

"On the turkey side we are looking to get involved a little more in the processing. Some of our bigger customers are asking us to run year round," said Jaindl.

Jaindl says the turkey business now processes from Labor day to Christmas.

And talks could result in one to two days a week year round.

But there's more to Jaindl than just poultry.

He also shared an update on the company's Spring Creek development project with members of the Western Lehigh and East Penn Chambers of commerce.

The 700 acre Lower Macungie project is divided into three parts: industrial, commercial and residential.

"We are in the process of getting approvals of land development sites for three large distribution centers right now," said Jaindl.

The membership had plenty of questions for Jaindl about both sides of the business.

Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce COO Frank Facchiano says through lunch forums like these members are not only learning what successful businesses in the valley are doing but how they got there.

"It started with 5 turkeys and now he is up to 750,000 turkeys. It was a long road but really anybody could do it," said Facchiano.

One lesson Jaindl shared is diversification.

He says should there be another economic downturn the company's bottom line will be insulated because he's focused on agriculture, farming and development projects.
