Life Lessons: Alcohol Awareness Month--Safe Spring Break

Life lessons alcohol awareness

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence has declared April Alcohol Awareness Month. It's an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol.

Studies show alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the US.

The numbers say one in every 12 adults suffers from alcohol abuse or dependence.

Long-term use can cause serious complications. But when it comes to drinking, do you know fact from fiction?

Movies, songs, and music videos show the glitz and glamour of drinking, but do you know the facts when it comes to beer, wine, or vodka?

Which one contains less alcohol?

The truth is the average pint of beer, large glass of wine, or double vodka all have 2.8 units of alcohol. This is what makes you drunk chemically, and the faster you drink it, the higher your peak blood level.

True or false - drinking coffee, taking a cold shower, or exercising helps a person sober up more quickly?

The answer? None of these methods work.

Only time can rid the body of alcohol. This process cannot be sped up, and when it comes to alcohol, it is important to know your limits.

The CDC reports one in 10 teenagers admit to driving drunk and one in five teen drivers involved in a fatal crash had alcohol in their system.
