Life Lessons: Perfect packing for travel

Traveling can be a stressful time, even if you’re headed to a vacation destination. Forgetting to pack something important like your toothbrush or passport, losing your luggage, the list goes on. But besides downloading your boarding pass to your phone, here are some more insider tips.

Contact lens cases can be used for more than just contacts for your trip. Try using them to store smaller items like earrings, or fill them with foundation makeup so you don’t need to bring the whole container.

To prevent your necklaces from getting tangled, place them between two pieces of sticky wrap. Also, place your shoes in a zip lock bag to prevent dirt from getting on your clothes.

You can keep everything inside smelling fresh and clean by placing one or two fabric softener sheets in your suitcase. And be sure to pack a spare garbage bag to fill with your dirty clothes.

And to avoid paying high prices for bottled water, be sure to pack at least one empty water bottle to fill after you pass security. Or another option is freeze your water bottles. The TSA allows frozen liquid to pass, but be sure it isn’t slushy, it must be completely solid.

In 2016 a study by the world’s leading air transport company found 23.1 million bags were reported mishandled, lost or stolen. To better identify your bag among others, tie a colorful ribbon around your suitcase handle so you can quickly identify your bag.

Another tip, head online and get TSA pre-check certified. You can walk through security in less than five minutes, and you don’t have to remove your shoes, laptops, liquids, belts, or light jackets. A membership costs $85 for five years. Even better, for $15 more try global entry. All the benefits of pre-check plus expedited processing through customs and border patrol whenever you return to the US.
