Ropes course, zipline part of new Blue Mountain adventure

Blue Mountain's Summit Aerial Park

PALMERTON, Pa. - Adventure is going to new heights at one local ski area.

Blue Mountain has just opened a new Summit Aerial Park.

It's a series of ropes courses through the woods, and it's open to the public on Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The courses are made up of several obstacles, some as high as 50 feet off the ground!

"Sometimes people are a little sheepish at the beginning and they're really proud of themselves when they make it over those challenging elements. The height is the concern for most people, but the zipline is what they all want at the end," said Jim Dailey, general manager of Blue Mountain Ski Area.

Dailey said many people know about their climbing wall and zipline at the bottom of the mountain, but that's mainly for team building and parties.

So, he said, it was time to build something new!

He said the mountain is also trying to expand its summer activities, which already include disc golf, mountain biking, laser tag, and more.

Blue Mountain is also debuting some new, gourmet food options, including crab stuffed scallops over sundried tomato risotto served with two types of aiolis.

They're also working on building a new 450-seat restaurant to be open this winter.
