One Tank Trip: Turtle Travels Exhibit

WILMINGTON, Del. - Just for the summer, there's a place nearby dedicated to telling the tales of turtles.

And you might be surprised to learn that even the slowest of journeys can be exciting.

There's a life-sized board game at the Delaware Museum of Natural History in Wilmington, Delaware.

"People are really fascinated by turtles," said Teresa Messmore. "They sort of capture their imagination."

Thrusted into the spotlight, the live turtles are year-round residents at the museum.

A new exhibit for the summer, called "Turtle Travels," put the red-eared sliders, eastern-painted and Mississippi mud turtles center stage.

A critter cam gives you a turtle's eye view.

As you learn more about the turtles, you begin to see the challenges they face and what you can do to protect them.

A moveable housing development shows you some of the impact we have on turtles' homes.

You can experience life in the slow lane and realize that no matter how long it takes to get there, turtles have some pretty amazing journeys along the way.

If you go: The Delaware Museum of Natural History is located 4840 Kennett Pike in Wilmington. Call 302-658-9111 for more information.
