Unsung Heroes: Holly Ziegenfus

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Little league baseball players have only a few months each year to play ball. But for one Allentown woman, her love of the game doesn't end with the changing of the seasons.

It's trophy day at the East Side Memorial Little League in Allentown. League president Holly Ziegenfus organized the ceremony.

"I saw it on TV and I was like I want to play this sport it's really cool," said Ali Delarosa.

Before you get to the majors or even the minors -- most start with t-ball.

A member of the league nominated Holly as an Unsung Hero because of what she does to help under-privileged children participate and play for an outstanding baseball league.

"Every time I have a game she'll call my mom to tell her we have a game that day and what time," said Jared Santos.

She's on top of schedules, sponsorships and smiles.

"I just enjoy being with the kids.  Enjoy seeing them play the game and just winning or losing they still have fun. They still learn the game of baseball," Ziegenfus said.

For some, Little league is their introduction to the national pastime.

"He's very eager to learn.  He loves baseball. He eats it. He drinks it," said Nancy Diaz.

" I feel like very thankful because if I didn't play baseball we'd always be getting in trouble," Jakob Diaz said.

"I'm very grateful for her cause without her there wouldn't be any East Side Memorial anymore," said Josiah Washington.

But she won't let that happen. Holly says she sees how all her volunteer work pays off.

"I do everyday. I'm down her just about every night. Whether I'm playing or not," she said.
