SPRING TWP., Pa. - A 20-month old from Spring Township, sadly, is the most recent face of a pool-related death in Berks County.
The Centers for Disease Control reports that accidental drownings are one of the leading causes of death among infants.
Now, local experts are taking a moment to urge parents to take as many safety precautions as possible.
At the YMCA in Reading, trainers recommend starting swimming lessons for infants as young as six months old.
"For the the very young, six months to three years, the parent and child, it just makes them a little bit more comfortable when their mom or dad are with them," said Kim Johnson, president and CEO of YMCA in Reading.
Key safety tips include:
Keeping toys away from the pool.
Removing ladders from above-ground pools when pool is not in use.
Every parent and caregiver should be trained in C.P.R.
Designate a babysitter during pool parties.
Have a charged cell phone nearby.
"Watch your children at all times. Water is enticing to kids. So there going to want to go in it, because it looks like so much fun. So watch your kids at all time," said Johnson.
