Stockertown boy gets a kidney transplant

It's a milestone for one Northampton County boy on a courageous journey.

You may remember us telling you about the Stockertown boy who needed a new kidney.

Well now, he has it.

For Christmas 2012, there was only one present Aidan Conover's mother wanted.

"I want the kidney. That's all I care about," said Bobbi Conover.

Conover and her son Aidan got her present Wednesday morning.

"He is in ICU he is sleeping his kidney is working," said Conover.

For the last year and a half Aidan has been on the United Network for Organ Sharing waiting list.

He's spent spent 11 hours a day on dialysis and has traveled to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia dozens of times.

Now, after hours of surgery at CHOP, Aidan is resting while doctors monitor his condition.

Aidan suffers from a rare disease called FSGS that scars the kidneys of 5,600 people a year.

Doctors say it's possible Aidan's disease may impact his new kidneys, but his family is hopeful.

Bobbi Conover says it's been a very emotional journey for her family, one they shared on the Facebook page "Aidan's Courageous Journey."

Bobbi says she's thankful for the love, support and fundraising efforts of the community.

"There is a lot of people that support him it's amazing. To have them all there and go through everything with us especially with their prayers," said Conover.

Aidan will stay in the hospital for around 10 days.

And will have to return to CHOP three days a week for the next few months for tests.

Conover says while she already received a present, she would like to ask for just one more.

"Keep Aidan in their prayers and hopefully everything works out." said Conover.
