Daniel Mercano clipped for stealing razor found with drugs, police say

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A man who was caught stealing an electric razor got into more trouble with the law after he was found with sedatives he had obtained without a prescription, officials said.

Daniel Mercano left the CVS Pharmacy at 305 West 4th St., Bethlehem, without paying for a $52.99 Norelco he had stashed in a bag at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

When police searched Mercan, they found he had a bottle with seven Clonazepam pills without a prescription, officials said.

Mercano has at least two previous shoplifting convictions, officials added.

Mercano, 37, of 1011 Elm St., Easton, was arraigned on charges of felony retail theft and drug possession and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $2,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 28.
