They are the survivors of breast cancer you don't hear about very often. The kids.
Monday, we met two sisters who are staring the disease in the eye.
To say that Deb and Chrissy's kids are brave would be an understatement.
"They sat me and my brother down and they told us basically that she was diagnosed with breast cancer," said Derek Miller the son of Chrissy Gieringer.
"We were all crying and hugging our parents because we didn't know much about it at all," said Stephanie Sipics, daughter of Deb Sipics.
Sisters Chrissy and Deb's five children now know all about breast cancer.
Deb was diagnosed in 2009, Chrissy in 2011.
They watched as their mothers went through double mastectomies, radiation and chemotherapy.
Through it all, Deb's and Chrissy's family and friends tried to make things as normal for the kids as possible, even though that was clearly not the case.
The kids say they tried to do their best putting on a brave face and help their mothers get through it.
"It might make her upset if I am upset and that would make everybody upset and make it harder to get through," said Stephanie.
"I would come home from school and I would sit down on the couch and she would be in the recliner and I would be on the couch and I would tell her about my day and she would tell me how her doctor trip went," said Derek. "I made her mac and cheese a lot."
Deb and Chrissy were very frank about what was going on and about the breast cancer gene.
"My mom told me that since she has had it that there is a possibility that it could come -- there could be a gene lurking inside my brother and I," said Derek.
The kids say they are glad they know they may also be potential carriers.
Instead of fearing the future, they are hopeful about their mother's recovery and cancer research advancements.
"I am hoping it gets even better like they can prevent it even if it's the worst type of breast cancer. why is that? Then nobody would have to go through what we went through," said Stephanie.
