Millions of Americans can now shop for health insurance, thanks to the Affordable Care Act. The Health Insurance Marketplace opened at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The partial government shutdown will have no immediate effect on the insurance marketplaces because they operate with money that's not part of the annual federal budget.
