Prescription drugs, pills

On Saturday, you'll have a chance to safely unload all those unwanted and unneeded medicines from your home.

Oct. 26 marks the 7th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at numerous locations around the region.

The collection day provides a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs, as well as educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

It's a great way to get rid of expired drugs or medications you no longer use. It also keeps such dangerous drugs out of the hands of children and pets, as well as keeping harmful ingredients from getting into drinking water sources.

During the last drug collection day in April, officials collected 371 tons of prescription medicines at more than 5,800 locations nationwide partnering with the DEA.
