'Lights, Camera, Action' Coming to Berks
Lights, camera, action will soon be said all over Berks County.
The Greater Reading Film Commission is preparing to shoot a promotional film about the area and Thursday people dined at the Peanut Bar to raise money for it.
The GoggleWorks, The West Reading Diner, or the view from the Pagoda. At first glance these locations may not look like movie sets, but they will be.
I'm sick of all the films in America taking place in Los Angeles or New York and I like that Reading has a different look, said actor Michael Constatine.
Constantine, a Reading native, was in My Big Fat Greek Wedding and is also writes movies. He has agreed to be in the new promotional film and has other projects.
I've got two films that I've written that I want to produce in Reading, said Constatine.
The Greater Reading Film Commission wants other producers to feel the same way... even if they aren't familiar with the area.
I was born and grew up in Reading and when I left Reading I said when I left Reading I said I'll never go back there again, Constatine said.
Location! Location! is the title of the short film and Constantine is one of the many characters trying to convince a Hollywood director that Reading has many of the things that we often overlook.
We have really beautiful distinctive architecture, landscaping, I call it-- from factory to farm in five minutes, said Santo Marabella, the film's writer.
Santo Marabella wrote the new film that will start shooting in a few weeks. He says the commission didn't want to do the typical video.
You would have someone going around and saying this is a beer factory and this is pretzel factory and this is main street and here's a farm, said actress Lisa Eichorn.
But we thought maybe there is another way to do that by having a narrative story, said Marabella.
The climax of the story will be at FirstEnergy Stadium, and if you want to be seen in the stands you need to take in the R-Phils game on June third.
I wish and hope that it is successful and it is just the thing that makes people want to come to the area, said Eichorn.
The Reading premiere of Location! Location! is set for September.
