1 dead, several injured in head-on crash on Route 100 near Bechtelsville

Accident in Washington Township leaves one dead

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. - One person died and three were taken to the hospital following a head-on crash on Route 100 near Bechtelsville on Friday.

The accident happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Route 100, in the area of Passmore Road, in Washington Township, Berks County.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office says that a 38 year-old female died at Lehigh Valley Hospital on Cedar Crest Boulevard in Salisbury Township after the crash.

According to state police, this woman was the driver of a vehicle with two other passengers, 19 and 24 year-old males from Quakertown. 

The woman was driving a maroon sedan that crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car, police said.

The oncoming car was driven by a 52 year-old man from Bally.

All four involved persons were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Route 100 between Hoffmansville Road and Chestnut Street was closed for about two hours while state police conducted their on-scene investigation and crews cleared the wreckage.
