Alvernia professor responds to presidential debate

READING, Pa. - Just over 4 weeks until Election Day, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton went one-on-one for the second time. In between their sparring over foreign policy and immigration, things got personal. Especially so for Trump, who's dealt in the last week with a leaked tape in which he's heard using degrading language towards women.

"He has said that the video doesn't represent who he is," said Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. "But I think it's clear it to anyone who heard it, it represents exactly who he is."

"I'm very embarrassed about it," said Republican nominee Donald Trump. "I hate it. But it's locker room talk and it's one of those things."

Tim Blessing, a Professor of Political Science at Alvernia University, said despite the tape, Trump had a good performance.

"I was impressed with the fact that Trump was able to pull himself together," said Blessing.

And as expected, Trump went after Clinton's email controversy again.

"Obviously if I were to do it all over again I would not," said Clinton. "I am not making any excuses.

"She was able to stay right on task, was able to hit her talking points, was able to talk to the audience," said Blessing.

Blessing said both candidates each addressed their respective scandals as well as they could have.

"There is nothing Clinton can say to get away from the emails, there is nothing Trump can do to get away from the tape," said Blessing. "They are simply hung around their necks."
