A elderly Montgomery County man was put behind bars Wednesday, accused of strangling his wife to death - with a unusual twist.

Police said Rudi Adolph Koos, 80, called 911 early that morning to report that he had killed his wife.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said this happened out of the blue - with no prior record of abuse inside the Souderton apartment.

With his wrists in handcuffs Wednesday afternoon as he was led away from his arraignment, Koos didn't speak to reporters about what happened inside his apartment Tuesday night.

Investigators said his wife, Waltraud Koos, 75, arrived home around 9 p.m., and then her husband then accused her of having an affair.

"She apparently laughed at him, did not take him seriously, and he then strangled her," said Ferman during a Wednesday afternoon news conference in Souderton.

"After he strangled her, he then covered her body up, placed her, like you would see someone inside of a coffin with their hands folded, covered her with a blanket, put a pillow under her head, and then waited several hours."

Ferman said Koos eventually called a friend, then police, and confessed to the murder.

Neighbors in the usually quiet community were still in shock Wednesday night.

"We live on the second floor, but I don't hear anything," said nieghbor Thomas Bonilla.

Others said they had never seen anything conspicuous from the apartment.

"Trudi gave my wife a bracelet for her birthday a few years ago, I shoveled their sidewalks, no issues whatsoever," said fellow nieghbor Josh Holmes.

As for the allegation that Mrs. Koos was having an affair:

"From the information we have, this is just something that's going on in his mind," said Ferman.

Koos is being held without bail at the Montgomery County Jail.
