KU football players suspended following off campus fight

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - A football player from Kutztown University is facing charges and three others have been suspended after a fight in Columbia County injured two Bloomsburg University students over the weekend.

The fight broke out around 1 a.m. Sunday at an apartment on N. Iron Street near the Bloomsburg campus.

Officials say 19-year-old Donald Hoover of Robesonia, Berks Co.,  and 19-year-old Jackie Lithgow of Carlisle, Cumberland Co., were hospitalized after the fight and Lithgow is listed in critical condition.

According to a police criminal complaint, the group of football players entered a closed fraternity party, and were asked to leave by several fraternity members, but refused to do so.

Police say 20-year-old Angel Cruz, a Kutztown freshman from Robesonia, Berks Co.,  was arrested for his involvement in the fight.

He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and related charges.

Kutztown University issued a statement saying Cruz has been suspended from the football team pending the outcome of the investigation.

The university also said three  other football players believed to be involved in the fight have also been suspended from the team for "violation of athletic department policy.

The other suspended players are:
Eric Condron, 20, of Philadelphia
Justin Wieder, 20, of Quakertown, Bucks Co.
Jake Wygant, 18, of Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co.

None of these three have been charged.

Cruz was arrested in Kutztown Thursday night and was taken to Bloomsburg for arraignment. He is currently in the Columbia County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
