3 people hospitalized after Rockland Twp. blaze

3 people injured in 2-alarm fire that destroyed home

ROCKLAND TWP., Pa. - A fire in Berks County destroyed a home and sent three people to the hospital early Friday morning.

Flames broke out at a house at 14 Day Rd. in Rockland Township around 4:30 a.m.

The fire went to two alarms before crews could knock down the flames. Volunteers from fire companies as far away as Blandon responded to the scene.

"When I pulled up, we had heavy fire showing from the address side of the building," said Chief Nathan Keller, Lyons Fire Dept.

Everyone inside the home managed to get out on their own, said officials, who could provide no information about the extent of the victim's injuries.

The home is a total loss, causing $150,000 in damage, officials said.

"Very relieved. I was glad that everybody made it out. It was a close call," Keller said.

The state police fire marshal is looking for what sparked the fire, but the initial investigation shows that it started in the kitchen and was accidental in nature, officials said.
