69 News Week In Review

It's time to take a look back at the stories making headlines this week in the 69 News Week In Review.

Monday, a judge ordered a trial for a former Northampton County teacher charged with burglary and trespassing.

Officials said Curt Reimer was caught concealing unidentified items in the boys' locker room of Bangor Area High School.

Court papers say Reimer was previously accused of stealing underwear from that same locker room several years ago, but charges were never filed in that case.

On Tuesday, a federal court overturned Pennsylvania's ban on same-sex marriage.

Pennsylvania was the last remaining state in the Northeast to have a ban on same-sex marriage.

Governor Tom Corbett, who opposes same-sex marriage, said he would not appeal the court ruling.

Wednesday, a Northampton County man died in a kayaking accident along the Lehigh River.

Officials said 26-year-old Jeremy Deemer drowned soon after his kayak capsized alogside a dam in the Easton area.

Rescuers were able to resuscitate a second kayaker who passed out while trying to free Deemer.

On Thursday, Berks County was pounded by a massive hailstorm.

The large hail cause an enormous amount of damage, including shattering hundreds of car and building windows.

So much hail fell that snow plows had to push it out of the way.

At one point, more than 3,000 people were left without power.

Friday, teachers in a Northampton County school district overwhelmingly rejected a random drug testing policy.

The Bangor Area school board passed the policy last year.

But the testing couldn't happen unless the union approved it.

Many community members pushed for drug testing after a teacher died of an overdose in 2009.

The union says random drug testing violates the teachers' Fourth Amendment rights.
