69 News Week In Review

It's time to take a look back at the stories making headlines this week in the 69 News Week In Review.

Monday, three people died in a fiery crash on I-78 near the Berks-Lehigh County line.

Police said a chain reaction crash was set off when a tractor-trailer rear ended traffic.

The crash happened along a dangerous stretch of the highway.

DOT officials said two-long term projects will make the highway safer.

On Tuesday, a mother made an emotional plea against bullying at a school board meeting in Northampton County.

Robin Zotynia said her 14-year-old daughter Courtney committed suicide after being bullied for years by students in the Pen Argyl School District.

She said school officials need to do more to address bullying.

The superintendent said district officials never received any reports of the student being bullied.

Wednesday, a murder investigation stunned residents of a small borough in Warren County, New Jersey.

38-year-old Ralph Atkinson was charged with first degree murder following a deadly assault inside an apartment in Washington Borough.

Police said the victim, Margaret Graf-White, was assaulted with a sharp instrument.

On Thursday, schools in Berks County were put on lock-down while a fugitive led police on a frantic chase.

42-year-old Chad Blackston took off as police went to arrest him on a felony warrant out of Hamburg.

The chase came to a conclusion along the Schuylkill River as he tried to swim away from police.

Friday, teachers in the Easton School District agreed to a pay freeze and increased medical contributions to fill a 6-million dollar budget gap.

The deal features no staff furloughs and no cuts to programs through 2016.

Still, 29 positions will be eliminated through retirements and resignations.

District officials said the deal avoids the possibility of having to cut more than 70 teaching jobs.
