69 News Week In Review

It's time to take a look back at the stories making headlines this week in the 69 News Week In Review.

Monday, Memorial Day was no holiday for firefighters in Allentown.

A massive fire that could be seen for miles gutted RDM Enterprises, which makes and finishes music instruments.

A fire wall saved the neighboring Consolidated Carpet Mills, but thousands of dollars in rugs were ruined by smoke and water damage.

The fire was ruled accidental.

On Tuesday, the Reading City Council voted to dissolve the Reading Area Water Authority.

Council members said the city needs to establish a new authority with more financial oversight.

The decision goes against Mayor Vaughn Spencer's recommendation to enter into a new long-term lease with RAWA.

Wednesday, two truck wrecks snarled traffic on I-78 in Lehigh County.

In the morning, a tractor trailer lost control and rolled down an embankment in Weisenberg Township.

Amazingly, there were no serious injuries.

Then in the afternoon, traffic was tied up for four hours when a truck crashed and spilled debris in Salisbury Township.

On Thursday, a teenager was arrested after allegedly shooting a man inside an Allentown laundromat.

Police said the 17-year-old will be charged as an adult for shooting a 59-year-old man multiple times at the Ridge Avenue Laundromat.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Friday, a Schuylkill County homeowner was found on his front lawn, shot dead.

Police said Gerald Hale was found on the lawn while his South Manheim Township home was going up in flames.

Police said the investigation continues into how Hale ended up dead, and what caused his home to catch fire.
