Angel Of Hope Supports Cancer Patients
It's hard to know the right thing to say when someone becomes diagnosed with cancer.
But one woman in Douglass Township has no problem speaking her mind and reaching out.
Ruth Dieroff estimates she's made over hundred care bags for patients with cancer.
She calls them chemo bags.
Sitting there getting that chemo hour after hour is no picnic, said Angels of Hope Founder Ruth Dierolf. And I go in there and some of those people look like they were in a concentration camp, me I gained 45 pounds. And I can't get rid of it.
You can't speak with Ruth Dieroff without laughing. That's just one of the gifts she has to offer people going through chemotherapy.
We put in a mini two year planner to keep track of all your appointments because that can get very hectic, said Dieroff.
These chemo bags are filled with things she knows you would need because she was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2006 and says she took these family photos because she didn't know if she would live.
I feel very fortunate that I'm here and I feel that I should be helping people, she said. I was out there stumbling alone.
That's how she decided to form the non-profit Angels of Hope. It's for cancer patients living in the Boyertown area. The name came from someone who received one of her bags.
She said what do you have there he said you know when I had cancer, he said I had this angel come visit me in the cancer center, she said. She gave me this key ring. He said I never go anywhere without it.
With each bag, she wants others to believe.
I'll even try to deliver it so I can say is there anything else I can do for you do you need any other type of support, said Dieroff.
To pay for it all she is having a fund raiser.
We really need golfers. I want it to be a great outing because I hope to do it every year, she said.
The golf outing for Angels of Hope is Sunday, September 12th.
