Back To School At K.U.
Published On: Aug 24 2011 01:52:39 PM EDT Updated On: Aug 29 2010 09:39:53 AM EDTSaturday was test day at Kutztown University.
The test being how well students are able to get in and get where they need to go.
With Construction on 222, the University and the borough of Kutztown knew some massive pre-planning was in order.
"We are working very closely with public safety and police services to handle the traffic flow," said Kent Dahlquist, director of housing and resident services at the school.
That flow starts with signs all over the campus.
Pointing students and their parents in the right direction.
Alexandria Castelucci says the signs were a big help.
"As soon as you come in they had all the other traffic going around in different areas so everybody that was moving in had like one place to go," she said.
Students started arriving in waves starting at 8:00 a.m. depending on what part of campus they will live on.
University officials say that way the volume of cars and U-Haul trucks is spread out during the day.
"Traffic wasn't too bad not too bad at all," one parent said.
Borough officials also were out in force, directing traffic and making sure there were no back-ups.
"We have community service officers on every red light on main street to control the red light to keep traffic moving safely," said Carol Fegley, the community service coordinator with Kutztown Police.
So if the University was to get a grade for handling what could have been a traffic headache, the parents we spoke with would give it an a plus.
"Better than it was last year, better than I expected."
