It was a party to have a little fun in the sun and to let people know there is plenty of space in Bethlehem. Parking spaces that is.
The Bethlehem rooftop beach party is a fundraiser to promote parking downtown and on the top level of a parking garage in Bethlehem, people aren't looking for a place to park.
They are having plenty of fun in the sun.
"They come to the party and realize it's not such a bad place to be so hopefully it will encourage them to come back," said Neville Gardner, president of the Downtown Bethlehem Association.
There was plenty to do from playing games, wearing your favorite hat, or just having a great time with friends.
"Bethlehem is a great town," said Tom Hartley, executive director, for the Bethlehem Parking Authority. "Real sense of community here."
The goal of the party is not to find your own beach oasis, but it is to help people realize that there is an oasis for your car when you park in the garage.
"One of the things we hear a lot in Bethlehem is oh there is no where to park and on the northside we have these two beautiful garages," said Gardner. "Both of them within 100 yards of Broad and Main."
The money raised will go to help advertise the vast amount of parking in Bethlehem on the southside and northside.
That's six hundred metered spaces, plus parking garages.
Workers at the Bethlehem parking authority call it creating a spectrum between convenience seeker and value seeker.
"Our most convenient spaces cost a little more money," added Hartley. "If you want to save a little money you park a little further away similar to an airport. When you want convenience you park near the terminal, when you want to save a little money you park in long term."
So there is a lot of fun and a lot of parking in Bethlehem.
There are also three ways to pay now.
With cash, credit and the new cell phone system.
