A boy who was just two days shy of his 13th birthday was killed in an explosion in Northampton County, officials said.

It happened at the Cherry Hill Tree Farm in Bushkill Township shortly after noon on Monday.

Another person, identified as the boy's father, Kraig Hahn, was badly burned.

Luke Hahn was killed when investigators said a truck he was driving hit an underground propane tank at the tree farm and exploded.

The explosion was heard and felt for miles around.

I was just sitting in the backroom watching TV and we just heard a big explosion and we just thought it was fireworks since the holiday and everything they've been going off all weekend, said neighbor Amanda Buskirk.

This was much bigger.

Upon arrival, the explosion was investigated, said Ofc. Douglas Schlegel. There was one deceased, one person removed to a local hospital.

Craig Hahn was flown to the hospital.

I was throwing a bucket of water out over the deck and there was an explosion it just shook the deck, said neighbor Gene Lilly, whose backyard overlooks the farm. It shook the ground. I saw flames shot about 30, 40, 50 feet in the air.

Hours after the explosion, smoke could still be seen rising from the site.

The fire chief told us crews will remain on the scene until the propane burns off.

Neighbors said the 12-acre farm is mostly used to raise Christmas trees.

It's run by Phillip and Beth Ronca.

Property records indicate it's owned by Wind Drift Real Estate Associates in Bethlehem.

An autopsy on the 12-year-old boy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Pennsylvania State Police and OSHA are helping with the investigation.
