Boy Scouts to be 'Scouting for Food' this Saturday
The Boy Scouts of America are working to feed the hungry in Berks County and the Lehigh Valley.
The Scouts launched their annual "Scouting for Food" community food drive Thursday. WFMZ's Kathy Craine hosted the kickoff event.
Last week, the Scouts distributed informational door hangers, and this Saturday, they'll go back to the homes to collect non-perishable food items.
Organizers said it's important to help local food banks and soup kitchens now more than ever.
"With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, it's always a shortage for pantries and soup kitchens in our area," said Lori Wehr. "We know now more than ever, with the events of Hurricane Sandy, it's especially important that the community supports us in these efforts."
If you didn't receive a door hanger, you can still make your donation at several drop-off locations in Berks County between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday or now through Sunday at several locations in the Lehigh Valley.
