Bucks County Children's Museum opens
There's something new in New Hope -- a museum -- just for kids.
The Bucks County Children's Museum opened its doors Tuesday morning where kids can build K'nex cars, race them, then recycle them.
An interactive museum like this has been a labor of love for mom Kelly Krumenacker.
"Twelve years ago it started out as just an idea," said Krumenacker. "I was a special education teacher and the mother of a child with sensory integration issues and I was looking for appropriate play for him."
After years of planning and finding funding, she saw it all come together and saw the smiles on the faces of her little visitors.
One of the goals here is not just to have fun, but to learn. They even might dig up a little bit of history, like this is the Trilobite, and it's actually the Pennsylvania State Fossil.
"I found a trumpet and broken wood," said Mia Risoldi.
"The artifact dig is all about history," said Krumenacker. "It's all about great artifacts and what they mean for Bucks County and how they're relevant to our history. In the General Store, it's all about buying locally."
The youngsters in the store also don't realize they're actually learning about money, weights and measures.
And these tots don't realize they're learning about insects and science in this fun treehouse.
"I think it's wonderful for the children to learn locally, not just history around the world, but in their neighborhood," said mom and nursery school owner Sheila Risoldi. "They can see the hot air balloon rides, the recycling, the agriculture and history in our area."
