There was a time when Easton's Simon Silk Mill was a symbol of the Lehigh Valley's productivity. The future of the historic mill has been a topic of debate for several city administrations. But now the city has plans to introduce the mill in a new light. WFMZ's Stephanie Esposito reports. >> "Think of it as viewing our future through a window from the past." That's what Easton Mayor Sal Panto is saying about the old Simon Silk Mill. >> We're hoping that this event is an entry from the old and into the new. >> REPORTER: They're calling it Movies at the Mill.. the concept came from local film maker Gershon Hinkson who has worked on movies like Spiderman 2. and the new Megan Fox movie, Jennifer's Body. But Hinkson says the inspiration came from another local artist. >> Anthony Marraccini's publication "The Illucidator" came out with series of interviews of local filmmakers.. reading the articles I saw that these people had some serious content. >> REPORTER: The vision for the silk mill has always been to celebrate the arts. but imagine this big wall a movie screen and this open space an open air theatre. >> We're going to present a very high end high class event. >> REPORTER: The plan is to spruce up the site to safely accomodate 400 to 600 people on Friday October 9th. For the city of Easton the event is multi-faceted. They're hoping the event will showcase the historic site. >> A lot of money needs to be invested in this facility over all and we're getting there step by step. >> This project as a while for the film festival is about $20,000 to $25,000 to redo the mill properly the way we want we're looking at $100-million. >> REPORTER: They're in the market for sponsors, but they seem confident that a partnership between the city and the arts is a win win.
