PHILADELPHIA -

A former Berks County official, indicted in an alleged fraud scheme, has pleaded not guilty.

Former Recorder of Deeds Ellie Antoine entered the plea at her arraignment Tuesday. She was indicted late last month.

Antoine overcharged people and businesses from 2004 to 2007, netting herself more than $153,000, authorities said.

Antoine's bail was set at $50,000, but her attorney said she was released on her own recognizance.
