A massive fire in South Heidelberg Township kept crews on the scene for several hours Wednesday.

It spread from two barns, to two silos, then to vehicles in the area.

It started around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon in the 100-block of Belle Alto Road, near Weaver Road.

Fire officials say over 20 fire companies responded.

Plus, the heat affected how they fought the fire.

"We brought in a couple extra companies, uh, for man power, because it does make it a little more difficult operating in the heat like this," said Fire Commissioner Jeff Weidner of the Western Berks Fire Department.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.

No one was hurt.
