Fmr. Hunterdon prosecutor sues state over firing

A former prosecutor for Hunterdon County, New Jersey is suing the state over the way he was fired.

Bennett Barlyn says he was suspended and later fired after he criticized the dismissal of misconduct charges against Hunterdon County Sheriff Deborah Trout and two other officials.

Barlyn's lawsuit says the case was dismissed for corrupt political purposes.

The state attorney general's office eventually took over the case.

Officials dropped charges against Trout and the others in 2010 because of legal and factual problems.

Barlyn is seeking unspecified damages for lost wages.
