Giants fans shelling out cash for championship gear
This year's Super Bowl will be a Giants-Patriots rematch.
And that's just fine with sports store owners who cleaned up when the G-Men were in it to win it back in 2007.
Owners say this is a great financial boost for them because the beginning of the year is usually slow.
Now, they are just waiting for more gear to arrive.
Carlos Muniz of Allentown is looking for anything to show his pride for the New York Giants.
Muniz got up early in the morning and figure stores in New Jersey would have more of a selection, but a lot of people scored Giants gear before he could get here.
"Soon as the gate went up this morning, the phone was ringing. People were asking do we have the championship stuff," said Schuylkill Valley Sports manager Matt Keith.
The NFC championship clothing won't arrive until Tuesday.
"The NFL kind of keeps it exclusive to the organizations, NFL.com, kind of gets first dibs on selling it and then of course the retail chains," said Keith.
"It's kind of nice seeing that New Jersey fans support the Giants when I kind of thought I was the only one in the area anymore," said Easton resident Kenny Maze. "So some fans will be sporting Super Bowl gear."
"We live in Pennsylvania where you got teams that don't go so unfortunate but it's great," said Muniz.
Store owners know once the shelves are restocked it will be atouchdown in regards to sales.
"I'm an Eagle fan so it is kind of painful to watch this, but at the same time on the business side of it, go Giants," said Keith.
Store owners are not sure how much they will make on the sales.
The largest day on record for the Schuykill Valley Sports chain is $85,000. That was win the Phillies won the world series back in 2008.
