EASTON, Pa. -

A convicted child killer will not be getting a new trial in Northampton County.

A judge has denied Scott Oliver's appeal.

Oliver was convicted more than 20 years ago for the 1989 rape and murder of Melissa Jaroschak. He filed an appeal, citing new DNA evidence, but a judge ruled Tuesday that the new evidence still does not absolve Oliver of the crime.

Oliver's attorney said his client is likely to appeal in Superior Court.
