Lehigh Valley Rollergirls are looking for some new teammates
They have names like Rose Beef and Maulecule.
Now the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls are looking for some new teammates.
They are some of the toughest girls in the Lehigh Valley.
"I've heard a lot about this team -- they are really well known in the Lehigh Valley," said Andeana Gonsales, one of the ladies trying out for the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls.
The good news for some is the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls are looking for some new members.
"I'd be very excited to be a part of the team," added Gonsales. "I personally love it because I like skating fast and I like that energy."
"You never know what we're going to get, small girls, bigger girls," said Michele "Rose Beef" Dolgos, head coach of the team. "Any type of girl that comes out we have a specific position that might fit how they are and how they might react on the track."
This is more than just skating around in circles.
There is checking just like in hockey and a lot of skill involved.
"We'll show the basic skills and we'll show them how to develop those skills so that they can be a roller derby participant," added Dolgos.
One of the toughest things to do is the endurance test for anyone on the team.
Just to make the team you have to go around 8 laps in two minutes, to be able to scrimmage you have to go around 25 times in five minutes.
A lot of sweat and tears go into making the team.
This is just an informational session for newbies who think they have the right stuff.
There is still time for others to make the team.
Actual tryouts are on February 4 at the Independence Family Fun Center at 4345 Independence Drive in Schnecksville, Lehigh County.
Those who pass the Feb. 4 tryout will be invited to a new skater 'Boot Camp' starting Feb. 11.
Potential skaters can email questions or RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org.
