Local Flavor: Bixler's Lodge

The restaurant we're featuring as this week's "Local Flavor" likes to serve up a few surprises.

You'll find Bixler's Lodge on Friedensburg Road in Lower Alsace Township, Berks County.

The building started out as a barn back in 1852.

Eighty years later, it was converted into a restaurant.

Bixler's is best known for its crab cakes and prime rib, which is roasted every Friday and Saturday.

But, the owner also likes to mix things up.

''We do a special weekend menu every weekend, said Brian Hartman. "We change it up every weekend so the people get to see two new soups, new appetizers, new entree specials.''
