Si Lewen, a 91-year-old painter who Albert Einstein once commented "Our time needs your work," is being honored with a local museum that bears his name. >> REPORTER: Si Lewen was born to paint. The 91-year-old has been covering canvas since the age of 5. In the past two years alone, Lewen has covered enough canvases to fill a football field, making his Montgomery County home look more like a museum wing worthy of the MET. >> A lot of work I do comes up as images in my dreams. >> REPORTER: Many of the images he says are from the Holocaust. The Poland-born painter served in the U.S. Army in World War II. >> SI: The human condition is what interests me. >> REPORTER: Twenty-five years ago, Lewen stopped selling his paintings, but the work kept piling up. Without options, the garbage dump seemed like the best place until the International Institute for Restorative Practices stepped in. The institute recently opened the Si Lewen Museum on Main Street in Bethlehem. >> TED: What we're doing is reintroducing Si Lewen to the art world once again. >> RENNIEE: What do you think of his work? I think he's terrific. It's unusual. >> REPORTER: Lewen, who says never in his wildest dreams did he expect to have his own museum, might be the first to agree. >> SI: I see the big picture. It's the driving force really.
