A local police chief announced on Wednesday, his intent to retire by the end of the month.

Whitehall Township Police Chief Ted Kohuth made the announcement through a press release issued Wednesday morning.

He said his retire will become effective May 27.

Kohuth has been a police officer for 33 years, first serving in the State Police for 25 years, then the past 8 as Police Chief in Whitehall.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to be affiliated with the men and women of the Whitehall Township Bureau of Police, as well as members of the Pennsylvania State Police," said Kohuth. "Likewise it has been a privilege to serve the citizens of Whitehall Township and the many citizens from throughout the Lehigh Valley region that I have come to know and serve over the years."

Kohuth said he looks forward to taking the summer off, spending more time with his wife and family, and "the new found freedom to pursue other interests and challenges."
