A local musician is making his mark on reality TV.

Dustin Tavella, of Stowe, Montgomery Co., is competing for the attention of one woman, and he said his musical talent has come in handy so far.

Tavella has been moving so quickly from one project to the next he has barely had a chance to breathe and take in his success.

"Everybody starts singing along and they all know the words then all of a sudden everyone is getting into it and it's all of my stuff that they're singing," said Tavella, describing his experience filming the reality show, "Sweet Home Alabama," on the CMT network.

"Just 22 guys in a house competing for one girl," said Tavella. "It was crazy."

And since they had no cellphones or computers, Tavella relied on his guitar for entertainment.

"For me to play music was nice because it was an escape," said Tavella, who graduated from Pottsgrove High School and has moved around.

He went to Alabama to compete for Paige Duke's heart and, of course, sang her a song.

"I wrote it there for her and when I came home, I recorded it and stuff," said Tavella.

The show taping is over, but he can't say if his song worked.

"Can't say the results of who won or anything, but it was definitely a blast being down there," said Tavella, a professional recording artist who hasn't released an album, but has been producing songs for YouTube and iTunes out of his basement studio.

Tavella said he has been signed by a label, and his next step is to move to Los Angeles to work on his career.

If you haven't heard of him just yet, he said the reality show experience is a good introduction.

"They kind of throw some of my jokes in there, some of my serious side, my music stuff, it portrays me well," said Tavella. "I was a little scared at first."
