Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski took a walk through part of a city neighborhood taking a look at some blighted properties.

The mayor walked several city blocks starting at Eighth and Turner streets.

City inspectors joined Mayor Pawlowski and neighborhood tenants to walk through the area to see what properties need improvements.

Tenants were also able to voice their concerns to the mayor.

"The blighted properties problem, there's just so many buildings that are condemned or closed down," said Kenneth Heffentrager, the vp of the Tenant Association of Allentown. "It deteriorates the quality of life in the area. I mean, people hang out on the doorsteps and its proven to invest more crime in the end."

Mayor Pawlowski says any residents with concerns can always e-mail his office or the city's department of building standards and safety.

The mayor takes 20 walks like this each year.
