Meeting seeks input on redevelopment of busy highway

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

The public is getting the chance to weigh in on a redevelopment project in Lehigh County.

A public meeting was held Thursday in Whitehall Township to discuss the MacArthur Road redevelopment proposal.

The findings of a study conducted by Urban Research and Development were presented at the meeting, along with several redevelopment options.

The project would focus on the stretch of MacArthur Road between Sumner Road and Route 22.

Officials said the Route 22 interchange has the highest volume in the Lehigh Valley, and traffic will only increase when the proposed hockey arena is built in Allentown.

"We want them to have a good first impression of Whitehall, of the city of Allentown and especially the Lehigh Valley." said Ed Hozza, Whitehall Township.

Hozza said the project is still in the early planning phases.
