Officials: Teen in self-defense shooting appears in court

CUMRU TWP., Pa. -

One of the three teenagers who police say tried to rob a 65-year-old man on a bike trail will be receiving a mental evaluation.

Police say the teen and two others tried to rob the man on the Thun Trail in Cumru Township last week.

But the would-be victim opened fire, killing one boy and wounding another.

The boy who was not wounded appeared in juvenile court and the judge granted a request for a mental evaluation.

Berks County DA John Adams says the wounded teenager is still in Reading Hospital.
