Investigators in Schuylkill County have identified a man who was shot by police after leading them on a high-speed chase.

John Pino, 69, of Shenandoah is accused of leading police on a chase that started Monday with a reported robbery at the St. Clair Walmart.

Investigators say Pino backed into a state police cruiser and nearly hit two troopers before he drove into an embankment in Mahanoy Township.

Investigators say St. Clair Police Chief Michael Carey shot Pino as he tried to drive away.

Carey is on administrative leave for injuries he suffered during the chase.

Pino remains in the hospital.
