Power Line Predicament Continues
Published On: Aug 18 2011 12:37:52 PM EDT Updated On: Aug 17 2010 11:06:25 AM EDTOfficials say PPL and the National Park Service have reached a court-approved settlement.
The resolution will allow PPL to trim trees around a key power line in the area.
The Park Service had initially said it didn't want any changes to the lines in the Delaware Water Gap.
But not all is resolved between the two sides.
There's another issue.
A battle is humming along over a proposed power line.
PPL wants to run the new line through the Delaware Water Gap area. But the National Park Service says that's not an option.
So the feds have suggested seven alternative routes for the line, one of which passes through the Lehigh Valley.
The first of three public to meetings discuss the options was held this evening in Pike County.
Some members of the public said they don't want to see the power line in their back-yards.
"The national parks are designed for us to always enjoy the beauty," said Stillwater Twp., N.J. resident Lisa Chammings. "The natural and scenic beauty of the park and this is just gonna take away from it the way it's proposed. So no, I don't want to see it."
A second public meeting will be held tomorrow night at 6:00 in Stroudsburg at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn -- Terraview on Stroudsmoor Road.
Thursday the third and final meeting will be held in Lafayette, N.J. That meeting will be at the Farmstead Golf and Country Club at 88 Lawrence Road. It will also be held at 6:00.
