Professor talks end of the world prediction
Could planet earth be in its final months? Depends on who you ask.
Could planet earth be in its final months?
Depends on who you ask.
"I guess some people believe it, but I personally don't," said Maftuna Muradova, Albright College student.
But not everybody is so sure. In fact, hundreds of students at Albright College crammed in to Klein Lecture Hall to hear professor Matthew Restall.
He published a book titled 2012 and The End of the World. It discusses the supposed prediction of the great ancient Maya Indians.
"The date that they supposedly were predicting was December 21, 2012," said Restall, a professor at Penn State University.
But Restall indicates that if you're worried about the world coming to an end, take it easy, because planet earth is not ready to fizzle out just yet.
Restall along with co-author Amara Solari, explained that the December 12, 2012 prediction was not a Mayan prediction at all, but a European invention, and somehow the Mayan message got twisted up along the way.
"All they're saying [the Mayans] is that in December, 2012, great things are going to happen," said Restall.
So, he said you shouldn't rush to cancel any vacation plans, because the world will be around for many years to come, and so will books and more experts who claim to know when the world will end.
"They will, they'll just come up with another date," concluded Restall.
