The Reading Police Department took some time to honor its own.

An awards ceremony was held Thursday night at Albright College.

Officials say it's important to recognize the officers' hard work especially considering the force has gotten smaller.

"Everybody's been working harder, they've been handling more calls for service, more investigations and the workload's the same as a couple years ago when we had over 200 officers. Now we're doing it with about 45 officers less," said Chief William Heim.

Many people were recognized during the ceremony including all the officers who helped keep the city safe during the transition to a smaller department.
